D-Style Logs for Log Homes

Some log home builders use authentic D-Style Logs for Log Kits, Manufactured Log Homes, Log Cabins, and Log Cabin Packages. This style of log is rounded on the exterior side of the log giving you the real log appearance.

Log Home Energy-Efficiency

Log homes have an advantage when it come to energy-efficiency, they use both the solid wood as an insulator to give it some R-Value and a log uses thermal mass. In a solid 7 inch log wall it might be indicated as a steady-state R-Value of R-9.

In a stick framed home you may have an R13 (or even R-15 in some areas), but because of the thermal mass of a log home it will out perform the stick frame home by 2.5% to over 15% more energy efficient.
