Workers at Buttonwillow Raceway are demolishing a wall outside Turn One on the new, additional course at the facility adjacent to Interstate 5 in Buttonwillow, California, about 30 miles west of Bakersfield.

TrackDaz promoter Dustin Coyner worked with the track and the Roadracing World Action Fund to get Airfence soft barriers deployed in front of the wall for the first motorcycle event on the new track, held on February 15-16. Coyner then convinced track officials to remove the wall entirely.

The Airfence will be deployed in other areas of the new course.

TrackDaz Reschedules Inaugural Motorcycle Event at New Track at Buttonwillow Raceway Park

Buttonwillow, CA – TrackDaz has been forced to reschedule the highly anticipated event at the brand-new race track at Buttonwillow Raceway Park to February 15th and 16th, 2025. Originally slated for February 1st and 2nd, the event faced a last-minute challenge when a vendor reneged on their commitment to supply the essential Airfence softbarrier rental, critical for rider safety. Thanks to the support of Buttonwillow Raceway Park and the aid of the non-profit 501(c)(3) Roadracing World Action Fund, the event is back on track. This will mark the first motorcycle event to be held at the new venue named “The Circuit.”

Dustin Coyner, owner of TrackDaz, expressed his gratitude and unwavering commitment to safety: “We’ve been working for months to ensure that motorcycle events at the new Buttonwillow Raceway Park track prioritize safety above all else. When our vendor unexpectedly backed out, we were on the verge of canceling the event. However, the track management worked with us to find a solution and move the event to mid-February. We’re also incredibly thankful to John Ulrich from the Roadracing World Action Fund for stepping in and helping us secure the Airfence we need to make the event happen.”

For participants who have already registered, no further action is needed if the new dates work for you. If you are unable to attend on February 15th and 16th, TrackDaz will gladly reschedule your entry to another event.

Magny-Cours. ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK rider Toprak Razgatlioglu (TUR) has to sit out the remainder of the eighth round of the 2024 FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) at Magny-Cours (FRA). Wayne Rainey Says Thanks After Record-Setting “Rainey’s Ride To The Races” At Laguna Seca

A Record Amount Of $215,00 In Donations To Roadracing World Action Fund For Soft Barrier Purchases

Hello Everyone,

First of all, I want to thank everybody who took part in this year’s “Rainey’s Ride to the Races.” We had a record number of riders and raised a record amount of $215,000 in donations for the Roadracing World Action Fund. The highlight for me every year is inviting the Legends who come and give back to this generation of racers with their time and commitment to improve rider safety. I know all the Legends had a good time both on and off the bikes.

The fourth annual “Rainey’s Ride to the Races” was a huge success and again set a new record for the amount of money raised for the Roadracing World Action Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The donations are used to purchase Airfence and Alpina soft barriers that help keep our athletes safe. Over the past four years “Rainey’s Ride to the Races” has raised over $500,000 for the Roadracing World Action Fund.

We had close to 100 riders heading out on the ride from the Moto Talbott Motorcycle Museum on the Friday of our race weekend at Laguna Seca. And they were joined by nine motorcycle racing legends – Eddie Lawson, Bubba Shobert, Rick Johnson, Scott Parker, Doug Chandler, Thomas Stevens, Miguel Duhamel, Ben Spies and John Kocinski. We had a better VIP experience this year using existing track facilities for lunch, and other weekend events, with the highlight always being a couple of laps around Laguna with the Legends.

Again, I want to thank again all the riders who helped us raise a record donation amount of over $215,000 this year for the RWAF, especially the Terry Vance Family Foundation, Mission Food’s Juan Gonzales and Robb Talbott for their incredibly generous contributions.

Additionally, I’d like to thank the California Highway Patrol for keeping everyone safe, Gordon McCall for again leading the ride, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and, of course, MotoAmerica and the MotoAmerica team who helped make this ride possible.

I’m already looking forward to the fifth annual Ride. See you all next year.

Wayne Rainey

Vance Family Foundation To Donate $125,000 To “Rainey’s Ride To The Races”

Terry Vance Set For Largest Donation In Roadracing World Action Fund History

IRVINE, CA (June 6, 2024) – MotoAmerica, North America’s premier motorcycle road racing series, is pleased to announce that the Terry Vance Family Foundation is set to make the most generous donation in the history of the Roadracing World Action Fund, and he will do so through the fourth-annual “Rainey’s Ride To The Races.” The drag racing legend and current MotoAmerica team owner is donating $125,000 to the fund that provides for the purchase of the Airfence and Alpina soft barriers.

Spurred on by his donation a year ago to the “Rainey’s Ride To The Races” charity event, Vance has opted to further increase his donation this year.

“First of all, I think it’s important to recognize the effort put forth by John Ulrich in not only starting the Roadracing World Action Fund, but in the continuous work of purchasing the soft barriers and maintaining the integrity of the fund,” Vance said. “Donating to the Roadracing World Action Fund is a no-brainer for me as there is no better way to give back to the industry than by doing everything we can to protect our racers. The soft barriers are a proven entity, and the bottom line is, they save lives. What is more valuable than that? In making this donation, I ask that others in our industry take up the challenge of joining me in making our sport as safe as it can be.”

“I think Terry’s donation this year is awesome,” said MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey. “Terry’s a racing legend and he understands how these soft barriers provide protection for our athlete’s safety. All of us at MotoAmerica really appreciate Terry’s contribution to the Action Fund through Rainey’s Ride to the Races. The entire paddock and our fans benefit from Terry’s very generous donation.”

“Rainey’s Ride To The Races” will be held on Friday, July 12, opening day of the sixth round of the MotoAmerica Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, and will again benefit the Roadracing World Action Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that promotes motorcycle racing safety with the facilitation of soft barrier systems at racing events.

The ride will be limited to 50 participants who purchase the special $700 Premium “Rainey’s Ride To The Races” Ticket, which includes the Q&A session and lunch with legends Wayne Rainey, Eddie Lawson, Bubba Shobert, Rick Johnson, Scott Parker, Doug Chandler, Thomas Stevens, Miguel Duhamel, Ben Spies, and John Kocinski in the climate-controlled Turn 3 Paddock Suite on Friday. While a three-day general admission ticket is included in the donation, for an additional $700, “Rainey’s Ride To The Races” ticket purchasers can upgrade to the MotoAmerica Superfan VIP Experience in the Turn 3 Paddock Suite for the entire weekend.

The American Superbike Racing Association (ASRA) and Evolve GT School and Track Days are waiving gate fees for this coming weekend’s event May 3-5 at Pittsburgh International Race Complex (a.k.a. PittRace) and instead is asking for donations to the Roadracing World Action Fund (RWAF) to gain admission.

At the gate, participants, racers, crew members, etc. will be given the opportunity to make a donation using a QR code or by adding cash to a donation jar, according to ASRA President Alex Spellman.

Gate passes to ASRA events typically cost between $40-50 per person.

In addition to the Evolve GT School and Track Day on Friday, the event at PittRace includes Round Two of the ASRA National Sprint Series with Pirelli, a round of the new ASRA Outlaw Bagger Series, and ASRA regional races.

The Roadracing World Action Fund is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping prevent rider injuries at racetracks, road race and dirt track, nationwide by purchasing and deploying soft barriers made by Airfence and Alpina. Since its founding in 2001, the Roadracing World Action Fund has raised over $3 million for this purpose through donations and fund-raising efforts by racing and track day organizations.

Tens of thousands of dollars of soft barriers were destroyed in a fiery crash May 27 during the WERA Cycle Jam at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

Ilan Bental crashed in Turn Four, the esses section, at Road Atlanta during the 600ccc/C Superstock Expert race. Strong winds then turned a small fire on Bental’s crashed motorcycle into an inferno that burned up a huge section of tire wall, a chain link fence, and many sections of life-saving Airfence Bike soft barriers.

View a video of the scene shot by veteran racer Chuck Ivey here: https://www.facebook.com/1485493885/videos/253560307256536/

While the fire ended the remainder of the day’s activities, Bental was relatively uninjured according to Ivey, the fire was eventually extinguished, and enough repairs were made overnight that WERA was able to resume on-track action the following morning.

The Roadracing World Action Fund (RWAF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to helping prevent or reduce the severity of racetrack injuries by advocating for and facilitating the use of soft barriers, immediately started a campaign to raise funds to replace the destroyed Airfence sections (which were originally supplied by previous RWAF fund-raisers).

Thanks to ongoing fundraising efforts by PRE Track Days and N2 Track Days, a donation of penalty fines from MotoAmerica, a special fundraiser organized by MotoAmerica Superbike racer Josh Herrin, and individual donations from road racing fans and supporters, the Roadracing World Action Fund has shipped 20 new sections of Airfence Bike worth approximately $56,000 to Road Atlanta, where they have been deployed.

On Thursday at Pittsburgh International Race Complex, a group of MotoAmerica riders got together with FIMNA Safety Officer Dan Argano and helped affix Medallia logos to some new sections of soft barriers that were deployed at PittRace.

The barriers were paid for by a generous donation to the Roadracing World Action Fund from friend of MotoAmerica Leslie Stretch, on behalf of Medallia, who is the title sponsor of the Medallia Superbike Championship.

Among the riders who participated were Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha Racing’s Jake Gagne (the two-time and defending Medallia Superbike Champion) and his teammate JD Beach; Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki teammates Richie Escalante, Brandon Paasch, Tyler Scott, and Teagg Hobbs; Tytlers Cycle Racing’s Cameron Beaubier; Westby Racing’s Mathew Scholtz; and Thrashed Bike Racing’s Max Flinders. In addition, MotoAmerica Director of Operations Niccole Cox and Race Director Rick Hobbs pitched in and helped apply some of the Medallia logos, as well.

“Every racer in MotoAmerica, as well as our staff and officials, know the importance of the Roadracing World Action Fund in protecting our riders through the purchase and deployment of soft barriers,” MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey said. “I’m so grateful to Medallia and our good friend Leslie Stretch, for donating a significant sum for the purchase of new soft barriers, which are being used this weekend to protect our competitors during the MotoAmerica Superbikes at Pittsburgh event.”

The Roadracing World Action Fund is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that promotes motorcycle racing safety, and in particular, encourages and facilitates the use of soft barriers at motorcycle racing events, including all MotoAmerica races.
