The Utah Sport Bike Association (USBA) – 2025: A New Era of Racing

In 2024, the Utah Sport Bike Association made significant strides to enhance the racing experience for its members. The reintroduction of two-day racing was a huge success, and with the support of the Roadracing World Action Fund, additional Airfence barriers were added, enabling racing to resume on the East course configuration at the world-renowned Utah Motorsports Campus (UMC). The USBA has seen more riders from neighboring states and even Canada, all eager to bang bars with local racers and vie for podium finishes and purse money provided by Burt Brothers Tires and Service and the Outlaw Garage. Following a year of remarkable growth and change, what’s next for the USBA in 2025?

The Utah Motorcycle Law Masters of the Mountains Race Series is truly a series “For the Racer, By the Racer.” USBA board members, most of which actively race themselves, asked their riders for feedback on what they love most about the club, and areas where improvements could be made. After reviewing the feedback, the USBA board went to work and the 2025 season promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Club President David Meyer stated “I am very happy with the recent trajectory of our club, and the progressive changes we’ve made for 2025. Our board and volunteer staff have worked hard this off-season to structure a monumental 2025 season. While the off-season work continues, we are excited to welcome new and existing racers from near and far to the first-class racing experience The USBA offers.”

Continuing the success of 2024, the 2025 season will feature two-day racing with an option for Friday practice hosted by club partner Apex Trackdays. The season kicks off with the annual New Racer Certification on April 12th at UMC. By popular demand, the series is expanding from 5 to 6 rounds in 2025 offering more laps, more fun, and more opportunity to compete for podiums and purse money. Thanks to the ongoing partnership with the Roadracing World Action Fund, racing will take place on the West, East and the coveted Perimeter course configurations, providing racers with variety and the challenge of multiple track layouts. The USBA renewed its partnership with the AMA for 2025 which means racers looking to earn their MotoAmerica license can race for points all summer in Utah working toward the next step of their racing careers.

The USBA will also continue its Supermoto/MiniMoto Race Series, sponsored by Edge Powersports, which includes classes ranging from minimoto to full-size supermoto bikes. “It’s important to create a platform for the next generation of road racers to develop their skills,” said President Meyer. “By offering youth racers a safe, fun, and competitive environment, we hope to spark a passion for the sport and watch them grow into champions.” For 2025, the USBA has partnered with MotoAmerica to host two rounds that serve as national qualifying events for the National Minimoto Championship, which will be held later in the year by MotoAmerica.

In conjunction with MotoAmerica, USBA is hosting two Mini Cup rounds that will qualify riders for the MotoAmerica Mission Mini Cup National Finals being held at Road America August 8-10. Photo by Driveby Shooting,

That’s not all. The USBA is revamping its race day format to provide the ultimate road racing experience. In the past, only the premier “King of the Mountain” racers qualified for their grid positions. This year, all racers will have the chance to lay down their fastest lap in qualifying, ensuring everyone has an opportunity to fight for their best possible position on the grid. The USBA has also simplified race classes and weekend schedules, making it easier for riders to sign up and participate, regardless of the bike they’re riding. Race a cutting-edge superbike or a classic ultra-lightweight? What about a Bagger or Hooligan? No matter what bike you’re on there will be plenty of opportunities to grid up!

Maybe the biggest and most exciting development for the 2025 season is the return of Endurance Racing. The USBA is proud to announce a six-round, two-hour endurance series where racers will test their skill, stamina, and strategy over extended periods on the track. This exciting new championship is set to bring a whole new level of challenge and camaraderie to the series. More details on this will be released soon, but one thing is clear: endurance racing is making a comeback at the Utah Motorsports Campus!

Why Race with the Utah Sport Bike Association in 2025?

World Class Track and Facilities, Purse Money, Contingency, AMA points, Competitive Atmosphere, Endurance Racing, All Classes Qualifying, and so much more! Whether you’re chasing podium finishes, seeking endurance challenges, or just looking for an exceptional racing environment, the USBA offers something for everyone. Get ready to grid up in 2025 — we’ll see you at the track!

Round five of the Utah Motorcycle Law Masters of the Mountains series was held September 14th and 15th at Utah Motorsports Campus on the West track configuration.

Racing started on Saturday with two qualifying sessions and with multiple racers going below a time of 1:30 on this track configuration earlier in the season, the excitement level was high. Cold morning temperatures meant that multiple competitors elected to sit out the first session and wait for warmer weather in session two. Series leader and defending champion Anthony Norton was one of the competitors who braved the cold in session one and posted the fastest time of the session at 1:30.497. The second session saw the full field participating. Norton immediately bested his time in session one with a lap time of 1:29.954 on his first full lap of the session before lowering his own best time again to 1:29.624. Behind Norton local racer and former number one plate holder Brian Childree wasted no time and carded the second-best qualifying time at 1:31.698 on his very first lap of the day. Behind Childree, Chris Mousley rounded out the front row in third with a time of 1:33.449.

Having secured the title at round four, Norton took pole position on Sunday for the Burt Brothers King of the Mountain GTO and the Moto United King of the Mountain GTU race with only his perfect season on the line. When the red lights went out Norton led the field into Turn One with Childree in second. Mousely, starting in third, didn’t get the start he wanted and ceded third place to Louis Saccoccio who started in fourth. Saccoccio’s grip on third would not last long as he crashed going into Turn Five of the first lap.

After Saccoccio’s retirement, the running order was Norton, Childree, Steven Marco in third, Alex Zinaich in fourth, and Mousley in fifth. The running order remained unchanged until lap four when Zinaich and Marco came across the line neck in neck with Marco successfully defending third position. By the end of that lap however, Marco had yielded third to Zinaich. By lap seven Norton had opened a sizable, straightaway-length gap on Childree in second, who in turn had opened a sizable gap on the trio of Zinaich, Marco, and Mousley in third through fifth, respectively.

On lap seven Marco moved past Zinaich for third and on lap eight Ziniach would attempt to return the favor in Turn Five. Zinaich was unable to make the pass stick and was forced to settle into fourth position. The running order, now being Norton, Childree, Marco, Zinaich, and Mousley, mostly settled into a rhythm until lap 11 when Zinaich surrendered third to Mousley. On the next lap Marco made a huge mistake when the rear tire lost traction, nearly causing a huge high-side crash. The gaffe cost Marco the drive out of Turn 10. That lack of drive gave Mousley in fourth a chance to drag race into Turn One and capture third place. It was not to be, however, as Marco was able to gather himself and get back on the throttle and preserve third place. Norton at this point continued to keep his head down and tick laps off until he successfully crossed the line in first, Childree in second, and Marco in third.

Of his race and season, Norton commented, “What a great way to wrap up the 2024 season. 5/5 on the weekend, clinching the #1 plate along with a few other class championships. My PrecisonFab Machinery ZX-10 has been a weapon, and I’ve got to give it up to these Dunlop tires. I ran the same tires all day on Sunday, and they never stopped producing consistent fast laps. The high winds Sunday made on track conditions very tricky, each lap was a bit different with winds gusting and swirling. Very happy with the results on the weekend and season here. This year the USBA took huge leaps forward, and I want to say ‘thank you’ to everyone involved for producing such a safe, fun and competitive race environment. I already know 2025 is going to be bigger and better, and I can’t wait to defend my title.”

The UtahSBA wants to thank Dustin Lance of Utah Motorcycle Law for his generous support. Racing in Utah simply wouldn’t happen without you. The UtahSBA also wants to thank John Ulrich and the Roadracing World Action Fund. Lastly, we want to thank all our racers, their families, and our generous sponsors. We couldn’t do it without you. Get on those bike builds this winter and we’ll see you all next year!

Round four of the Utah Motorcycle Law Masters of the Mountains series was held August 3-4 at Utah Motorsports Campus on the East track configuration.

Per tradition racing started Saturday morning with qualifying for the two premier races, the Burt Brothers King of the Mountain GTO and the Moto United King of the Mountain GTU classes. In the first of two qualifying sessions defending series champion Anthony Norton had the fastest time of 1:35.846. Behind Norton the competition for positions two through four was intense with racers Louis Saccoccio, Chris Mousley, and Wyatt Ferguson all within .75 seconds of each other.

In the second qualifying session Norton bettered his time from the first qualifying session with a lap time of 1:34.311. Behind Norton, Ferguson was able to drop his qualifying time to 1:35.498 and secured the second grid spot with visiting racer Mike Bishop able to card a lap time of 1:37.992 and leapfrog the lap times of both Mousley and Saccoccio.

At race time the first row was Norton, Ferguson, and Bishop and the second row was Saccoccio, Mousley, and Alex Zinaich. As the red light went out Ferguson was able to get the better of Norton and led the field exiting turn one. Behind the lead duo of Ferguson and Norton, Bishop and Saccoccio slotted into third and fourth respectively with Mousley behind in fifth. The running order would not last long however, as Norton quickly moved into the lead in Turn Eight of the very first lap. The running order remained unchanged inside the top five until lap six, but Norton had opened a significant, straightaway length lead on Ferguson in second, Ferguson himself having opened a sizeable gap on the competitors behind. On lap six Bishop ceded Fourth position to Saccoccio on the brakes in Turn One, and Fifth position to Mousley in Turn Eleven. After passing Bishop, Mousley quickly set sail and latched onto Saccoccio where Mousley would give Saccoccio little breathing room and attempted a series of passes beginning in Turn One of lap nine and again in Turn Four that same lap. Each attempt was rebuffed and Mousley was forced to regroup and try again the next lap. On lap ten Mousley again tried for a pass in Turns One and Four before trying yet again in Turn Seven. Saccoccio was able to hold Mousley off until lap 12 when disaster struck Mousley and when he went down in Turn Eleven. Norton was able to maintain the huge lead he had built and crossed the line for the victory and kept his 2024 premier class unbeaten streak alive. Ferguson crossed the line in second and Saccoccio came in third to finish out the podium.

Of his race Norton reflected, “Solid weekend of racing again here in Utah! East course is so fun but physical, especially when it was 100° out all weekend! The KOM race was a grind. Lou and my Teammate Wyatt both got great starts and we went 3 wide into t1. It was a fun battle with Wyatt for the lead from there! Once I was able to get by, I just put my head down and focused on clicking off the laps! I can’t say enough about the Dunlop tires. Even in the crazy heat, I was able to put down one of my fastest laps of the race on lap 13/14 on my way to the top step! Huge thanks to Burt Brothers Tire for putting up some prize money for us to battle for. I know where I’ll be going to get my next set of truck tires from! Great weekend for me and my whole Privateer Industries team. We’re all looking forward to gridding up for the final 2024 round in September.”

With the round number four victory complete, Norton was able to clinch the premiere class championship a round early. Of his 2024 campaign Norton said, “I was able to proudly display the #1 plate to start the 2024 season, but I think the only thing tougher than winning it originally would be defending it! With a target on my back and all the racers around me stepping up their game and going faster every round, I knew I wouldn’t be able to take a single lap off this year. Racing is tough, and it takes a bit of luck to put a season together. Luck has been on my side and so have some amazing people and sponsors! Stoked to win the #1 plate again this year for all of them! I really couldn’t do all this without the support of Precision Fab Machinery, Legal Ride NV, Crossbeam Builders, Beast LED, Series sponsor Utah Motorcycle Law, and of course those super sticky Dunlops from Trackstar and Racers Edge.”

The UtahSBA is also excited about our StreetGP “Intro to Racing” program which had strong attendance again on Saturday this round and graduated several participants directly into the Novice race classes on Sunday.

The UtahSBA wants to thank all the racers, their families, and our sponsors for making racing in Utah viable. We also want to invite all racers and fans to join us for our season finale on September 14th and 15 at Utah Motorsports Campus on the West track configuration

The Utah Sport Bike Association is a Utah Non-Profit dedicated to promoting education, safe riding, and competition in the Intermountain West. You can find more information about the USBA, upcoming events, and schools at www.utahsba.com or find us on Facebook.

Editorial Note: UtahSBA sent an email after this was originally posted to inform us that they made a factual error and Anthony Norton did not crash during the King of the Mountains race, as stated in their press release.

The Utah SportBike Association (UtahSBA) was pleased to host round three of the Utah Motorcycle Law Masters of the Mountains race series on July 6-7 on the West Course at Utah Motorsports Campus, in Grantsville, Utah.

After posting a sub 1:30 lap time at round two on this configuration, series leader and defending Champion Anthony Norton was brimming with confidence and was the rider to beat. When the dust settled after the qualifying sessions, Norton earned the top spot by posting a qualifying time of 1:29.5.  Former series Champion Brian Childree was able to card a lap time of 1:30.6 to secure second place on the grid. Visiting racer and teammate to Norton, Wyatt Ferguson, qualified third with a fast lap time of 1:31.1.

When the red light went out Norton got the holeshot and led the field into Turn One. Childree, meanwhile, was able to get the jump on Ferguson. Exiting Turn One, the running order was Norton, Childree, with Ferguson in third. The top three remained tip-to-tail for the first five laps of the race and the top three opened a sizable gap to fourth through sixth positions, which were occupied by Chris Mousley, Alex Zinaich, and Steve Marco, respectively. Childree was able to do a 1:29.8 on lap two and Ferguson was able to post a lap time of 1:30.4, also on lap two. With lap times so low Norton was unable to truly break away and open much of a gap. Unfortunately for Childree, a mistake in Turn Five on lap six led to a lowside crash. Later that same lap, Ferguson crashed in Turn 10 and brought out the red flag, meaning the race would have to restart with eight laps remaining.

The order for the restart was Norton, Mousley, Marco, and Zinaich. On the restart, Norton again got the holeshot. Behind Norton, Mousley got a poor launch and it appeared that both Marco and Zinaich would get by him. It was not to be, however, and by Turn Five of the restart Mousley was in second ahead of Marco and Zinaich.

With four laps remaining Norton had opened a sizeable lead and was putting in steady laps on his way to the eventual win. Behind Norton, the race for second between Mousley and Marco was a fierce battle. Marco tried for second no less than three times in Turn Five and even appeared to have a better drive out of Turn 10 but was thwarted by Mousley each time.

Of his race, Mousley commented, “I was hoping Marco would get tired but he just wouldn’t let go. Lap after lap he was still there. I want to thank Crossbeam Builders, JP43 Training, and Outlaw Garage.”

This was the first time on the podium for Marco, who stated, “I want to thank Trever and Adrain at The Weekend Garage, Toxic Moto, and most of all my family for all their support.”

“Awesome weekend of racing!” said Norton. “My Privateer Industries ZX-10 was on rails and the Dunlops just couldn’t be stopped. Brian and my teammate Wyatt Ferguson were on the same rubber and flying too, forcing me to be sharp. Stoked with the results. Four for four wins including the Burt Brothers King of the Mountain race, and even happier with outright pace on track for us right now. Typical racer, always hungry for more and looking forward to the next round! Huge thanks to Trackstar Performance Tire Service, Precision Fab Machinery, Crossbeam Builders, Legal Ride NV, Beast LED, and the USBA title sponsor Utah Motorcycle Law for making this whole season possible.”

The UtahSBA wants to invite all club racers to come race for a cash purse August 3-4, 2024 at Round Four on the East Course at Utah Motorsports Campus. Last but certainly not least, the UtahSBA wishes to thank our generous sponsors, volunteers, racers, and families. Without your support club racing in Utah would be impossible.

The Utah Sport Bike Association is a Utah non-profit dedicated to promoting education, safe riding, and competition in the Intermountain West. You can find more information about the USBA, upcoming events, and schools at www.utahsba.com or find us on Facebook.

UtahSBA: Norton Wins Again in Utah at USBA Round Two

After a snow-affected Round One on May 4th, the Utah Sport Bike Association (UtahSBA) redeemed itself on Memorial Day weekend with a complete Round Two of the Utah Motorcycle Law Masters of the Mountains race series.  Back to the fast and flowing UMC West configuration, there were mixed conditions on Saturday but perfect dry weather for the big races on Sunday.

Friday evening featured a track walk with longtime USBA member, the one and only Shane Turpin, who is one of the few members of the UMC West 1:29 club.  We think all racers that attended the track walk set personal best lap times this weekend. Thanks, Shane!

Saturday started out raining with the first practice sessions declared wet. King of the Mountain (KOM) qualifying was declared dry, but a drying track made things interesting.  The fastest guys didn’t seem phased, putting down some strong laps to set the KOM grid:

Anthony Norton 1:30.5

Brian Childree 1:32.9

Michael Bradshaw 1:33.1

USBA’s intro to racing “Street GP” program, with 10 riders this time, finished just in time before the next drenching rainstorm resulting in more wet races in the early afternoon.

Dry conditions were again declared for Race One of Novice GTO by Outlaw Garage. We wanted to see which of our novice racers have gotten good at changing their wheels under time pressure.  A race-long battle for the top five positions resulted in the final order of Kohl Burmester, Daniel Christiani, Brian Cassel, Richard Umplby, and Adam Decario.

Formula 40 is one of UtahSBA’s most competitive classes.  New UtahSBA competitor Reid Edwards, from Seattle, took the win in GTO over Chris Mousley in second and Alex Zinaich in third.  In the GTU division, Kory Cowan left the second wave GTU field behind and quickly caught up to the GTO riders, easily winning GTU and ending up fifth overall.

Sunday’s action started early with Norton putting in a 1:29.7 lap in Open Superbike, joining Turpin and a few others in the exclusive UMC West 1:29 club.

Perfect conditions for the KOM race finally – 63 degrees and sunny. Defending KOM Champion Norton starting from pole position, most recent KOM race winner Brian Childree started second, UtahSBA veteran Michael Bradshaw started third.

Norton got a blazing holeshot, Childree got away second, and Bradshaw was third off the line. This group immediately gapped the rest of the field. Norton started to pull away with a 1:29.7 on lap two, and Childree and Bradshaw were the race to watch for second and third. In the middle phase of the race, Norton built the gap up to eight seconds, then went into management mode, relaxing his pace to 1:31s.  Bradshaw showed Childree a wheel several times in the remaining laps but ultimately settled for third. The final top seven KOM finishing order was Norton, Childree, Bradshaw, Wyatt Ferguson, Chris Mousley, Steven Marco, then Josh Fisher – on a 600!

Norton had this to say: “Round One was highly anticipated being back on the East Course thanks to the Roadracing World Action Fund and the addition of Airfence for UMC… But I’ve had a bone to pick on the West track since last season and I couldn’t wait for this weekend! Long story short, my bike was on rails and the TrackStar Performance Dunlops were working amazing! Winning the Burt Brothers KOM race was great, but for me the highlight was breaking into the 1:29s this weekend and adding my name to the short list of people who have done that! Gotta thank Precision Fab Machinery for their support this year that helps keep me and my program laser sharp. Looking forward to the rest of the Utah Motorcycle Law USBA season!”

In a gesture that didn’t surprise anyone, Michael Bradshaw donated his purse money to the Roadracing World Action Fund for more Airfence. Thanks, Mike!

Another highlight of the weekend was having Stefano Mesa present.  Some USBA racers even had the privilege of racing him in Open Twins where the top 5 finishing order was Stefano Mesa, Nolan Kiiskila, Matheus Gomes, Brian Larrabure, Brandon Morgan.

After a banger of a Race Two in Novice GTO presented by Outlaw Garage, the overall purse positions were: Kohl Burmester, Daniel Christiani, Brian Cassel, Richard Umpleby and Tyler Gulden.

It takes a village to put on these events.  We have so many people to thank:

UMC outstanding facility and staff

USBA Board

USBA Volunteers

USBA Sponsors

Racers’ friends and family

Roadracing World Action Fund

There are three more UtahSBA rounds at Utah Motorsports Campus this year, each preceded by a Friday Apex Track Days track day, making for a full three-day event.  We’d love to see you here, Utah in general is great and UMC is a gem of a track.

Round 3 July 5-7                  UMC West

Round 4 August 2-4             UMC East

Utah Sportbike Association Kicks Off 2024 Season!

The Utah Sport Bike Association (UtahSBA) was pleased to kick off the 2024 season of the Utah Motorcycle Law Masters of the Mountains race series on May 3-4. After abandoning a two-day race schedule during the COVID-19 pandemic, and being unable to race the East track configuration at Utah Motorsports Campus (UMC) due to deteriorating air fence, the UtahSBA not only made a long awaited return to a two-day race schedule, but did so on the East track configuration with updated air fence. Additional changes of note for the 2024 season include purse money for select race classes and a revised class structure that more closely resembles MotoAmerica rules.

With the premier King of the Mountains race canceled due to a snowstorm, the highlight race of the weekend turned out to be the Outlaw Garage Novice GTO race. Points were spread across two days of racing and with Outlaw Garage providing a cash payout for weekend finishing positions one through five, on-track action was intense.

The UtahSBA wants to invite all club racers to join us May 25-26, 2024, for round two at Utah Motorsports Campus, on the West track configuration, where the premier King of the Mountains class will be issuing a double cash payout.

Last but certainly not least, the UtahSBA wishes to thank our generous sponsors, volunteers, racers, and families. Without your support club racing in Utah would be much less gooder.

The Utah Sport Bike Association is a Utah Non-Profit dedicated to promoting education, safe riding, and competition in the Intermountain West. You can find more information about the USBA, upcoming events, and schools at www.utahsba.com or find us on Facebook.

Ryan Burke takes first in KOM O, Jerry Hicks retains championship lead.

Round 4 of the Utah Sport Bike Association’s Masters of the Mountains race series took place this weekend, July 22nd and 23rd at the Utah Motorsports Campus located in Grantsville, Utah. The round was held on a rarely seen perimeter configuration, offering a track fully 3.048-miles-long, with a front straight that’s nearly 3/4 of a mile long, and Ryan Burke, hailing from Colorado put on a dominating performance to take the top spot in KOM O.

The first of two races in a championship, called the Intermountain Challenge, was held during this round as well. The USBA and MRA (Motorcycle Roadracing Association, based in Colorado) partnered to create this first ever inter-club championship. There has always been a decent amount of cross-pollination between the two organizations, so this year, the two clubs decided to sponsor a two event “championship”. Racers still collect their normal championship points for their home series, but a separate tally will be run for the Intermountain Challenge. When round 2 of the series is held at High Plains Raceway in Colorado August 5th and 6th, the racers with the most points in their class wins the championship. Based on the turnout for the USBA’s event, the idea is a good one, and it will foster deeper friendships and more varied competition as racers from both organizations make the trip participate in both events in order to stack themselves against racers from a neighboring state.

Saturday morning saw 109 racers registered for the weekend, so the grids promised to be significantly deeper than usual. One of the most exciting races on Saturday was Moto2. The race began with 30 competitors gridded up to take the start. It was a mad rush to turn one, and it took several turns for the running order to work itself out. Burke gained the lead, and managed to open enough of a gap that he wasn’t really challenged for the lead at any point. However, the gap was still small enough that any mistake on his part could see him lose his position to second place finisher Brian Dobrowolski. Burke put a race together that was consistent enough to see him take the checkered flag in front of the rest of the field. Dobrowolski crossed the line just shy of three seconds behind him. The real battle happened behind the top two finishers. Kory Cowan, Ryan Richardson, and Michael Bradshaw were all fighting for third place, and the competition was fierce. All three crossed the line within half a second of each other, with Cowan taking third, followed by Richardson and Bradshaw.

Saturday’s Novice GTU also had some close battles within the top ten. Tom Webb took the win, but Genaro Lopez seriously challenged him for most of the race, eventually crossing the line .2 seconds behind Webb. Eddie Santana and Donald Rothfuss fought the entire race for 5th and 6th, with Rothfuss edging Santana to the line by a scant half second. The battle to finish top ten took place between Bill Dark and Travis Edelman. At the end of 5 laps, Dark managed to make it to line only one hundredth of a second in front of Edelman.

Sunday’s action started with a 15 minute KOM O qualifying session, which takes place as soon as the mornings practice sessions are. Burke took pole position, followed by Jerry Hicks, Bradshaw, and Brian Childree. Modern Vintage came on the heels of KOM O qualifying, and it was a race to remember. 21 bikes lined up for the race, but when the red light was extinguished and the bikes were through turn 1, it was obvious that the race to watch would be the top three riders. Kevin Dolan jumped out to an early lead, letting the two following riders battle for second. Shane White, who semi-retired from racing last year, brought his bike out for the first time this season, and put on a show that demonstrated both skill and patience. He made several passes on Braden Jones, only to lose the position several corners later. Towards the last lap, both of them managed to squeak by Dolan, but Dolan wasn’t going to let them get away. He managed to show them a wheel in several corners, but couldn’t quite make a pass stick. Jones crossed the line first, with White and Dolan crossing close behind. It was the last race before the lunch break, and everyone knew race was going to be hard to beat in the excitement category.

KOM U was the first premier race of the day. It is a 600cc open race, and the grid was twice the size it normally is. Richardson, who’d struggled at time to find that extra speed the day before looked like he had his bike dialed in and was hyper focused. He took the hole shot, and while he didn’t open an insurmountable gap on the field, he did maintain his lead for the entire 8 lap race. Dobrowolski was hanging on in second place, just waiting to take advantage of any mistake that Richardson might make, but he would be disappointed. He crossed the line just behind Richardson, followed closely by Bradshaw.

KOM O took place in the middle of the afternoon, and was scheduled to be a ten lap race. The length of the course and the heat of the day meant that endurance and physical fitness could play a major role in the outcome. 16 riders lined up for the start. Burke took the hole shot through turn one, and never looked back. He opened a sizeable gap within the first two laps, and never relinquished a second of his lead. Hicks, the current championship leader, crossed the finish line several seconds behind him, never able to find that extra speed needed to offer a challenge. Bradshaw maintained third position, the early challenges to Hicks and from 4th place finisher Brian Childree not materializing into position changes. The first four riders demonstrated skill, ability, and consistency worthy of championship contention. The O championship is still up for grabs, and the final two rounds promise to be action filled and the top contenders make every effort to score all the points possible in their race.

Round 4 was one of the most successful rounds in recent memory. The Intermountain Challenge, coupled with the fact that the USBA was running their race on the infrequently used Perimeter course saw over 100 racers show up to the Utah Motorsports Campus to test themselves and their fellow racers despite the July desert heat. Saturday saw several crashes, but no one was seriously injured. Sunday had fewer crashes, but the action was no less intense. The USBA’s 5th round will be held September 2 and 3 on the west course configuration of the Utah Motorsports Campus. in the meantime, the second round of the Intermountain Challenge will be held August 5 and 6 in conjunction with the MRA’s 5th round, scheduled to be held at High Plains Raceway, located in Colorado.

The Utah Sport Bike Association is a Utah Non-Profit dedicated to promoting education, safe riding and competition in the Intermountain West. You can find more information about the USBA, upcoming events, and schools at www.utahsba.com or find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/utahsba/
